The National March on Washington
For Lesbian & Gay Rights,
October 14, 1979

Okay, yes I know this is not music related, but since these pics are part of our gay & lesbian
history, I wanted to share them. In 1979 I was living in Norfolk, Virginia, and at the time
I was editor of the local gay newspaper, "Our Own Community Press." I feel blessed that
I did this role during the time of the March, as I went to it, with my Norfolk friends, with a
special desire to take lots of photos, to "cover" it for the newspaper. Some are of Norfolk
folks, mostly not. All photos are by me except where indicated. Hope you enjoy them...

I must have found the L.A. Gay Freedom Band quite photogenic, got three of them.

and, finally, me....most of these pics were used in our newspaper in a collage,
I decided then it was time to use my own pic, as sort of a coming-out statement,
another step along the road...

and, yes, there actually is a record album that I can tie in with this page...it was mostly
clips from the speeches from both the March and the Gay Freedom Train that crossed
the country on its way there

And, this is the only pic from the March I took from the net. The photographer (from Flickr) is just credited as RamDriver. That's Jayr Ellis in the front left ,and I think it might be me with the sunglasses above the letter SB in Lesbians, dunno...:)
