Gwen Avery

Avery was one artist who didn't fare too well on Olivia. Perhaps her blues style didn't jive with the marketing of their mainly folky output. According to the LP jacket liner notes stuffed in early Olivia albums (below), a release by Avery was planned for 1978. Pity it never happened.

You'll only find Avery on Olivia singing her classic "Sugar Mama" on
one side of a 45 and on the 1977 landmark various artists album "Lesbian Concentrate."

   

Finally in 2000, an album was released, and in 2001 it garnered her an
Outmusic Award for Outstanding New Recording. There was one other
album recorded, in either 1993 or 1999 (sources vary) called Gwen Avery
Live at IMA....copies got out though it was never officially available.
